MASS RAPE IN EASTERN CONGO: WE CAN END THIS IMPUNITY IN LESS THAN 12 MONTHS
Mr.President, I wish to take this opportunity to wish you and the people of the United States a prosperous new year.
CSI Nairobi represents America’s most respected forensic laboratory Bode Technology in the great lakes region.
As you are aware, there is on-going mass rape in Eastern Congo particularly in the provinces of North and South Kivu. This is a fact that was acknowledged by H.E Hillary Clinton on her last and recent visit to Goma, North Kivu.
And she did make a promise to the women and children of this region.
This December 2009, Mrs. Lyn of Heal Africa accommodated the CSI Nairobi Director Kinyanjui for one (1) week in North Kivu Goma.
CSI Nairobi was able to train the Doctors in Heal Africa and GESOM on how to collect DNA Forensic evidence from sexual assault victims, how to adhere to the Chain of Custody protocol and how to catalogue the rape evidence.
CSI Nairobi met with the Chief Prosecutor and the President of the Military Courts who assured us of the full support of the Government on the use of DNA technology to bring rapists to justice.
We also met with the Law Society Chairman, the UNICEF, the United Nations (PNUD & UNFPA), REJUSCO, American Bar Association, amongst others who committed their full support should we use DNA evidence to end the rape menace in North and South Kivu.
In less than 12 months, CSI Nairobi is confident that together we can end mass rape in North and South Kivu.
All that is needed is for Bode Technology of the US to undertake the DNA analysis and the Doctors of Heal Africa to collect the evidence as we trained them.
Resources will be needed for this task. A massive sensitization campaign is also mandatory.
The Doctors of Heal Africa are already undertaking this task. And we have the support of the Government in DRC. CSI Nairobi has the logistical network ready.
H.E Hilary Clinton promised to avail resources for the women and children of Eastern DRC. Now that we have a formidable weapon against these rapists, let the same be availed as soon as possible.
Mr. President, it is a great leader who once said that life is like the game of chess. The rebels and other militia who continuously rape this beautiful women and children have made their move. Let us promptly yet precisely make ours and let us take them out of the game of life.
